Taxonomy of Internet products

APPENDIX - INTERNET ECONOMICS

In every modern industry there is a need to represent products by creating a taxonomy of production, also for statistical and economic purposes. To this end, not finding anything exhaustive in the current academic literature, an attempt was made to create one.

To try to classify the products and services that insist on the Internet domain, the following types of distinction criteria were used:

  • Visibility to the end user, or if the product / service is intended for the end user
  • Content, or if the product / service needs to have content in order to be provided
  • Technology, i.e. the level of technology required to deliver the product / service

Based on these criteria we can go to deepen the typological analysis go deeper and go to identify:

  • Website
    • Content website
    • E-Commerce website
    • Social website
  • Technological platform
    • Research
    • Productivity
    • CMS
    • Communication
  • Services for sites/platforms
    • Creative Services
    • Adv Services
    • Infrastructure Services
    • Security Services
    • Analytics Services

The taxonomic categories are further explored in the appendix, identifying for each element, description and a clarifying example.
